The history of any subject is a difficult beast to tackle. Specifically, a subject as broad as “the history of music and the music industry” within an entire state is bound to be missing several important figures and events that helped shape that history and industry. Regardless of how brief or focused an assemblage of historical facts, stories, and figures is: how can one ever do justice to the subject? How can one attempt to surmise an entire history of passion and creativity without neglecting essential details? How does one choose which stories to include and which should remain as treasured memories for those that experienced it firsthand? The answer is that while a historian always aims to achieve that of an ideal true and complete detailing of the events that took place, the reality is that one will always fall short.
My goal with this project was to provide a glimpse into the rich and complex history of the Arizona music scene and industry. While this will come nowhere near close to properly acknowledging every band, artist, venue, concert, event, and fan that took part in creating the vibrant and booming music scene we have in Arizona today, it will attempt to bring focus on a few key elements and members that helped shape music in Arizona as a whole.
